Telling is Not Selling

‘If you don’t do this right now, I’m going to…’

‘But you don’t understand, our product is…….’

Have you ever had someone say something like this to you? Have you ever been the one saying this to someone?

Every day, thousands of mothers TELL their children to clean their rooms and do their homework.

Every day, hundreds of business owners TELL their employees to take action.

Every day, millions of people TELL millions of people to do things so they get what they want and need.

And the result………………………..they just don’t flipping listen.

Well, ask yourself this question. Do I like being told what to do? Do I always do what I am told to do?

I have worked with 1000’s of individuals all around the world, and I always ask that question in my Sales Programs. Never, yes never, has anyone ever put up their hand and said that they like being told what to do.

If you don’t like being told what to do, then why in the heck do you expect others do?


Selling is the art of meeting people where they are. Selling is the art of understanding how they are feeling. Selling is the art of seeing what is troubling them and then finding the solutions that you could present to them whilst handling their objections. Selling is the art of creating a more compelling vision of the future for people, a future that they want to pursue.

In order to sell effectively, you need to be willing to step into someone else’s world and understand them. Selling means connecting with people and asking them tons of questions. It means looking deeper and staying present and listening to everything they have to say without immediately trying to justify their beliefs.

When I speak about it this way, selling may seem hard, but it’s not. In the Sales Explosion Program I show people just how easy it can be to sell. I show them underneath all the hype, sales at its core is about one person connecting with another.

There are many ways to get what you want, but at what cost? Authentic selling means meeting people’s needs and solving their problems so that you’re in fair exchange. You’re giving them what they need and they’re giving you what you need.

Stop telling and start selling. When you do, the results in your life and business will dramatically change.
